Rotary/Bar mixer to benefit international project
The Coral Gables Bar Association graciously shares its monthly fundraising mixer, held the second Wednesday of each month, with the Rotary Club of Coral Gables RCCG). Best of all, the event proceeds benefit charitable work.
Coming Aug. 13, the mixer will be held at Fonda Dona Leonor, 369 Miracle Mile. Rotary’s International Committee is most appreciative for the chance to raise funds at that event to provide school supplies for six pre-schools in the poorest areas of the Dominican Republic. These mixers represent a great way for organizations to network, socialize, and share resources for outreach efforts.
For many years RCCG has been helping to support the pre-schools with books and supplies, with the result being higher education rates and fewer dropout rates from students who received pre-school education from these classes. Tickets for the mixers are $15 for members, $30 for non-members, and complimentary for sitting judges. To RSVP, send email to Kelly Garces at kgarces@garceslaw.com.
Actors’ Playhouse’s U.S. premiere of Step by Step received a standing ovation on opening night. The play, that runs through Aug. 10, will make you laugh out loud and even tear up at times. With no intermission the play features three actresses: Anna Lise Jensen, Kereema Khouri and Elizabeth Price.
Step by Step was written by the acclaimed author Peter Quilter who is known for his hit Broadway play End of the Rainbow, which inspired the Oscar-winning film Judy starring Renée Zellweger. For tickets, go to Actorsplayhouse.org.
Opening night guests enjoyed a pre-show reception with a Bacardi Bar and crepes from Crepemaker whose owner, Maria Lopez, was among the many attending that night’s sold-out show. Among the others in the crowd being welcomed by Barbara Stein were former two former Gables mayors, Don Slesnick and Jim Casson; Jeneissy Azcuy, South Florida PBS’s new chief of Communications and Education; Dr. Jeff Solomon; Dr. Christina Burns and Rey Redlich; Roy Gonas; Coral Gables City Commissioners Melissa Castro and Richard Lara; former school board member Marta Perez, and Jerry Kavulich. Of course, photographer Alberto Romeu documented the night with photos.
In other news, Bluenest Development is looking to bring attainable, quality-built housing to Miami. Bluenest’s CEO, Salim Chraibi, was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to discuss plans for the company’s housing developments. Bluenest has 2,500 houses in the process of being built, ones that are beautifully constructed and that can be purchased by the families of our essential workers from firefighters, teachers, and police to healthcare workers for as little at $400,000.
Salim is passionate about helping solve the housing needs for those whose services are critical for our community’s safety, health, children and lifestyle. Visit cnews.net for that interview.
