The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has been awarded $2 million by the United States Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration for the Prioritization Process Pilot Program (PPPP) grant. Continuing the Broward MPO’s commitment to public transparency and accountability, the PPPP will modernize data-driven approaches to planning that can be evaluated for public benefit.
“The Broward MPO will effectively utilize the $2 million award support to build out a transparent, data driven portal to prioritize and fund local transportation projects that support the needs of families,” said Greg Stuart, executive director of the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization. “By combining data from siloed sources, we are creating a comprehensive model of our region by which to virtually vet solutions that positively impact the lives of real people. To date, the Broward MPO has funded over 60 local projects totaling nearly $140 million that impact the quality of life for those who live, work and play in Broward County.”
The grant program provides funding to develop and implement a publicly accessible, transparent prioritization process for the ranking and selection of projects for inclusion in short-range and long-range transportation plans. As a result of the funding, Broward MPO will modernize its technology to integrate the components of existing transportation programs and support projects that improve safety, economic strength, and global competitiveness of Broward’s transportation network.
The PPPP will be created with a robust public participation plan, ensuring taxpayers are heard. Feedback is integral to the transportation process to ensure that decisions are made in consideration of actual users of the system, and to benefit public needs and preferences.
Greg Stuart added, “Successful public participation is a continuous process, and we will actively inform the public and stakeholders of potential policies and projects, obtain input from them on the choices surrounding those policies and projects and inform them on the selections and rationale of those decisions.”
This PPPP award is in addition to the over $60+ million that the organization has successfully managed and/or implemented for the benefit of Broward’s residents.
