The Town of Cutler Bay’s Bay Coastal Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday September 20, the 40th anniversary of the International Coastal Cleanup, the world’s largest, one-day volunteer effort for oceans and waterways. Residents are urged to show their commitment to reducing marine debris along with millions of volunteers from around the globe.
The event takes place at the corner of SW 87th Ave and SW 212th Street from 9 a.m. to noon. Parking for participants is available at Cutler Bay Senior High School, 8601 SW 212 Street. Registration is required to participate in the cleanup.
“Miami-Dade’s participation, organized by VolunteerCleanup.org, will feature 65+ cleanups all over the county with 4,000 volunteers,” says town PIO Rod Gibson. “This year is the launch of Trashathon, a new fundraising concept where the community can make a per-pound pledge to support the overall cleanup effort. If you are unable to help clean up as a volunteer, you can still support the cause by making a pledge or sharing with others.”

“For the cleanup, we will provide garbage bags, gloves, and data collection cards,” says Gibson. “Community service hours are also provided.”
Participants are advised to bring water in a reusable container to reduce waste and refuse single-use disposable plastic water bottles. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. This is a mangrove shore and trail site, and you should wear closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and insect repellant are recommended. If you have your own reusable working or gardening type gloves, bring them. The town will be providing gloves but cannot guarantee they will be in your size.
Waivers are required to participate. You can complete the waiver form at check-in on the day of the event. Anyone under 18 who is coming without a parent or guardian should contact the town at https://www.cutlerbay-fl.gov/ or by calling 786-573-5502.
