Sports, Academics and Service Take MCS Stage

With classes in session, students took a break to receive an update on one of their favorite charitable outreach projects (Sunil’s Home Orphanage) from Lynn Bauer, of Bauer Financial Services and board member of the orphanage.

After her latest trip to Sunil’s Home Orphanage in India in mid-August, Bauer brought news during elementary chapel, updating the students on the children and home they help support with their organic garden.

Just prior to Bauer’s recent visit, the students held a fundraiser for the charity and are planning a holiday drive beginning this month to assist in Sunil’s endeavors.

With fall upon us, many sports are in full swing with varsity offerings in cross country, bowling, football and girls’ volleyball. Although the teams are all competing well, the bowling team is undefeated and swept a double tournament last week again Belen and Gulliver, 7-0. Alexander Yaniz continues to consistently score above 200 in each of his games.

While MCS doesn’t require community service hours for graduation, it’s something that comes naturally at the school. In the last month alone, MCS students were involved in the 5K Freedom Run, the American Diabetes Walk as well as the most recent Heart Walk at FIU on Oct. 6. Whether students participate through their service clubs or individually, they may be seen giving back throughout the year.
 
In other campus news, MCS welcomed youth pastor David Stocker, one of the featured speakers during the school’s Spiritual Emphasis Week this month. Horeb Christian and Gladeview Christian Schools also brought their students to the MCS campus to take part in the activities.

In addition, James Henderson, a US Olympian gold medalist in weight lifting, was also a featured speaker. Henderson inspired the students describing the importance of making personal choices in their lives.

Students celebrated religious freedom at “See You At The Pole” Day, the global day of student prayer begun in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. More than two decades later, millions around the world pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September. The ‘Day’ is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God, a student-initiated, studentorganized, and student-led event.

Miami Christian School is a fully SACS and ACSI accredited college preparatory school, with strong programs in academics, athletics, and activities. Students may participate in Advanced Placement, Scholars, Honors, and Dual Enrollment programs, and the school also offers ESOL and an ESE Resource room. Victor Academy is a fully SACS accredited online program for those interested in non-traditional education.
