Staying election-ready starts with keeping your voter information up to date. Whether you’ve moved, changed your name, or simply want to verify that everything is correct, taking a moment to review your voter registration can save you time—and prevent problems—on Election Day.
In Florida, your voter registration must reflect your current legal residence in order to vote in the correct district. If you’ve recently moved within Miami-Dade County, updating your address ensures that you’re assigned to the right precinct and receive the correct ballot style, which includes local races and referendums specific to your area. If you moved to a new municipality or district, updating your information is the only way to guarantee your vote counts in the elections that impact you directly.
Failing to update your registration can lead to delays or confusion at the polls. If the address on file is outdated, you may be required to vote provisionally until your eligibility can be confirmed—an extra step that can be avoided with a quick update ahead of time.
Another benefit of keeping your information current is that it helps maintain your active voter status on the State of Florida’s voter rolls. You can also update your registration in person at the Elections Office or by mailing a completed voter registration application with your updated information.
