One of Cutler Bay’s most popular events, the annual Halloween Spooktacular, returns to Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200 St., on Friday, Oct. 24, with a second special event the following night.
Maria Herrera‑Mendoza, events and programs manager for the Department of Parks & Recreation, said she was excited about the return of the event.
“Join us for our two-night annual Halloween Spooktacular on Oct. 24 and 25, 6-10 p.m., at Cutler Ridge Park,” Herrera‑Mendoza said. “It will feature costume contests, Trunk or Treat, a golf cart parade, Movie Night, inflatables, food trucks, live deejay, and more.”
The Trunk or Treat activity in which local businesses in the community provide a safe and fun outing distributing candy is billed as a safe alternative to parents taking their children through neighborhood streets to collect candy and has become highly popular. The trunks of vehicles will be open with baskets of wrapped candies inside.
The Halloween costume contest also is well attended, with residents, both adults and youngsters, and even pets, participating. The costume contest is limited to the first 25 participants to register per age group. Herrera‑Mendoza said that it was important to arrive early.
“They may only register in person promptly at 6 p.m. at the black Cutler Bay Parks and Recreation tent on the far side of the field,” she said. “The costume contest will start at 8:15 p.m.”
The categories for the costume contest are as follows:
● pets
● infants
● ages 3-6
● ages 7-9
● ages 10-13
● ages 14-17
● ages 18 and older
On the second night, Saturday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 10 p.m., there will be the traditional golf cart parade with golf carts as well as some other vehicles decorated with colorful Halloween-themed designs. Even Cutler Bay officials participate, caught up in the spirit of fun. The parade loops around the lake and returns to Cutler Ridge Park. After that it’s Movie Night. The movie will be chosen by a vote on social media prior to the event.
As before, there also will be food trucks selling a variety of items, a live deejay and other activities for the whole family.
