Miami-Dade County School Board Member Danny Espino, District 5, hosted his first town hall of the school year Wednesday night at Miami Springs Senior High School, bringing together students, parents, educators, and community partners under the theme “Fostering Leadership and Civic Participation: Doing the Work.”

The event celebrated student and community leadership across District 5. Board Member Espino recognized the District 5 Dads’ Club for their ongoing volunteerism and mentorship on school campuses, as well as the District 5 Student Leadership groups for promoting service and student voice in their schools. He also honored the Top 5 Student Leaders from each District 5 school — students who exemplify their school’s culture and serve as role models for their peers.

Espino encouraged students to prepare for high-paying, high-demand careers — whether through college or vocational tracks — and to bring their skills back home to Miami-Dade. “Our community needs you,” he said. “Leadership means using your education to build and serve right here where you live.”

Guest speaker Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez highlighted his partnership with the school district to bring mobile DMV units to high schools, an initiative sponsored by Board Member Espino to make ID and driver’s license services more accessible to students, families, and staff.

Board Member Espino closed by thanking the District 5 community for “doing the work” every day to support student growth and civic pride.
