Annual Event Supports Older Adults Facing Rising Food Costs and Ongoing Financial Hardship

The Pantry of Broward successfully distributed more than 300 Thanksgiving turkeys to pre-approved, low-income seniors from across Broward County. The annual event, held at the organization’s headquarters, provided much-needed holiday food assistance to older adults who continue to feel the financial strain of rising grocery prices and reduced federal support programs.

Seniors lined up early as staff and volunteers worked together to deliver turkeys and holiday fixings in a safe and efficient drive-up and walk-up format. Many recipients rely on federal benefits such as SNAP, which have not kept pace with inflation, making The Pantry of Broward an essential resource for consistent, nutritious food.

“Today’s distribution reinforces why our mission matters,” said Maureen E. Luna, CEO of The Pantry of Broward. “For many of our seniors, a Thanksgiving meal wouldn’t be possible without this support. To see the gratitude on their faces and know that we are helping them celebrate with dignity is incredibly meaningful. We are honored to stand with the older adults who have contributed so much to our community and deserve to feel cared for, especially during this holiday season.”

The Pantry of Broward serves more than 600 seniors and grandparents raising grandchildren each month, providing food assistance, case management, and wraparound support services. The Thanksgiving distribution is one of the organization’s largest annual events and reflects the community’s ongoing commitment to ensuring no senior faces the holiday season alone.
