Works of art for auction at SALA Arts Social

The SALA Arts Social is a multi-sensory arts event that includes music, dance, the visual arts, refreshments, drinks, networking and a silent arts auction on Tuesday, January 15, 6:30-9 pm. The event celebrates 12 years of performances and art and invites the public to experience what Arts at St. Johns is all about!

The music and dance includes performances by many artists who have performed at Arts at St Johns, including Tiffany hanan Madera, who blends bellydance with Latin and African dance forms.

A selection of paintings, graphics, and assemblages have been donated for the silent auction by ASJ founding director, Carol Hoffman-Guzmán and her husband Roberto Guzmán, who have been collecting local and emerging artists for over 40 years. The auction includes works by Florida and Colorado artists: Ed King, Debra Cortese, Ignacio Font, Chloe Firetto-Toomey, Paula Turk, Louis Recchia, Zoa Ace, Carol Hoffman and paintings/ graphics by unnamed artists. Also, the event includes a group show by the Artist Colony (a Miami artist collaborative).

The refreshments are provided by A Taste Experience catering, whose creator Tawanna Patrice designs culinary experiences by taking inspiration from many food cultures around the world. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm and includes the new “Chris-tini” cocktail created by Chris Peña, ASJ’s past Board President.

The name of the event, SALA, was chosen because it is an acronym for “Social Action, Local Arts,” which reflects ASJ’s vision to present local artists and art forms, and to use the arts to build community, to nurture dialogue about social issues, and to seek change through the arts.

In Spanish the word “sala” also means a living room, a hall or a gathering place, where people come together for friendship and conversation. This reflects the idea that the attendees of SALA are as important as the event — interesting and creative people from our Miami community!

The dress is “business casual.” TICKETS: $75 at door or online at www.artsatstjohns.com.
