Palmer Trinity School (PTS) recently welcomed students in grades eight through twelve to take part in its first AI-Powered Build-a-thon alongside teams from other local schools, including Ransom Everglades School and Gulliver Schools, to help students build confidence in using AI thoughtfully and ethically, an increasingly essential skill in today’s world.
At the Build-a-thon, students stepped into the role of real-world problem solvers, tackling challenges submitted by parents, alumni and community partners, including Zoo Miami and the Deering Estate. Using cutting-edge AI tools such as Gemini, Lovable and Gamma, students collaborated to design thoughtful solutions and then presented their ideas to a panel of judges composed of parents, board members and community leaders.
The event concluded with a final round of presentations, and a winning team was selected as the recipient of a special prize in recognition of their creativity and problem-solving skills.
“Through hands-on exploration with AI, our students are learning to become ethical, creative and forward-thinking innovators,” said Patrick Roberts, Head of School, Palmer Trinity School. “The Build-a-thon gives students a dynamic opportunity to create, collaborate and see the power of AI as a tool for solving real-world challenges.”
This inaugural event reflects PTS’s commitment to equipping students with skills that will shape tomorrow’s world, blending technology, ethics and creativity in a uniquely collaborative environment.
