The Town of Cutler Bay hosted members of the Miami-Dade Municipal Clerks’ Association for their Tuesday, Apr. 30, meeting in the penthouse suite of Town Hall.
Mayor Edward P. MacDougall welcomed the group and while addressing the members recognized the importance of the profession of the municipal clerk.
“Municipal clerks are the most underpaid and overworked staff in government,” MacDougall said. “We are very fortunate to have such highly trained and dedicated people keeping our governments running.”
Cutler Bay’s Town Clerk Debra E. Eastman served as the hostess for the “Fiesta” themed meeting, providing a colorfully festive setting in honor of the recent Cinco de Mayo holiday. Newly appointed town manager Rafael G. Casals was the keynote speaker at the meeting with an entertaining “thank you” speech recognizing the importance of the professional working relationship between the manager’s office and the clerk’s office.
The Miami-Dade Municipal Clerks’ Association (MDCMCA) was incorporated in 1995. The group of professional municipal clerks and staff meet bi-monthly to network and discuss different practices and procedures within their profession, often related to elections, record keeping and other municipal government functions.
Sandra Novoa, town clerk of Surfside, is the current president of the MDCMCA.
