Each year, the City of Sunny Isles Beach employees run with the other 20,000 plus participants in the downtown Miami Mercedes Benz Corporate Run. And if it sounds like an easy thing, running down the streets in Miami, think again. There are various urban obstacles to avoid, bridges to run up and down and crowds of people to weave amongst.
For a small group, we do better than just show up in our City Employee Division. Our men’s teams finished 2nd, 4th and 7th this year. Our swiftest team’s combined scores were not enough for first place, even though our fastest runner out-ran all 4 of the men on the winning City’s first place team. Our women’s team finished 3rd in the City Employee Division and our Co-Ed team finished fourth in the same division.
Some of the perks of running are: free snacks and energy drinks to help re-energize the athletes after they cross the finish line, the beautiful evening breezes of downtown Miami near the bay and river, having fun, staying in shape and building relationships within the organization.
If you missed it this year, be sure to start training with Jim Hill for the Mercedes Benz 2014 Corporate Run. It is a good incentive to stay in shape. The run is about corporate involvement too. A double thank you goes out to Ray Sellars for driving the bus and Claudia Hasbun for getting the T-shirts with short notice. The employees extend a big “Thank you” to the City Commission who sponsored our teams’ entry.
