Miami-native Cristina Suarez Krumsick has a unique new cookbook just out called No Bake Makery: More Than 80 Two-Bite Treats Made With Lovin’, Not an Oven (Grand Central Life & Style; May 7).

Krumsick will be appearing at Books and Books in Coral Gables on Thursday, May 30, at 8 p.m., and she also will be on NBC6’s Six in the Mix program the morning of Thursday, May 30. She recently was just a guest on the Rachael Ray Show.

Born and raised in Miami, Cristina graduated from Palmetto High School where she was very much involved with journalism. She went on to graduate from Boston University with a degree in journalism before moving to New York City to begin her career as a book publicist.

Having grown up in a big Cuban family of cooks (but not many bakers) and entertainers, her nighttime hobby was being in the kitchen. This passion, combined with her career in cookbook publicity at Simon & Schuster propelled her start her own little sweets business and blog, No Bake Makery. Soon after, she compiled all of her creations into a cookbook.

New book explains how to make no bake treatsAnd while she had a couple runs with the morning announcements at Palmetto High all those years ago, she never thought she’d be on the Rachael Ray Show, or even local news, making her treats.

Book-publicist-by-day and no-bakemaker by night, Krumsick is all too familiar with the stress of baking’s precise nature in a kitchen that is both small and hot. But the girl who loves to host a party wasn’t ready to give up dessert. Instead, she started having fun with it, experimenting with ingredients found right in her cupboards, and quickly developed a range of treats she could prepare sans oven.

No Bake Makery features an array of Krumsick’s favorite mini desserts that will enchant every taste bud on any occasion — special or every day. Cristina’s recipes offer all of the fun of baking (and eating!), but none of the fuss. In addition to tips for perfecting your technique, ideas for decorating, seasonal inspirations, and sidebar recipes, Krumsick serves up uncomplicated, step-by-step instructions for nobakems from Cinnamon & Spice Bark, Bite o’ Joe Truffles, and Key Lime Pie to Mintamelon Pops, Applesauce Cake, Fluffy Cracker Cookies, and beyond. Best of all, they’re perfectly portion-controlled, fun for kids, easy to pass around at a party, and most importantly, won’t steam up your kitchen. These creative, bite-sized beauties will make any at-home chef look like a pro.

Cristina Suarez Krumsick is the chef and proprietor of No Bake Makery. Based in her Brooklyn apartment, she launched her two-bite sweets business with just a blog, a PayPal account, and a bunch of no-bake recipes. In just the first four months, she fulfilled orders for more than 3,000 treats, hand-delivered around the New York City area. Cristina’s business has since expanded to cater parties and events from toddlers’ birthday parties to fancy fashion events to wedding dessert tables.

By day, Krumsick is a publicist at a major publishing house where she works with cookbooks, lifestyle, and contemporary fiction titles. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband. Contrary to popular belief, their apartment does, in fact, have a working oven.
