If artists are expected to reflect on their surroundings and reinterpret what they see through color and texture, then it should come as no surprise that September’s Grove Gallery Walk had a “natural” theme.
With an internationally recognized lush tropical environment, the most picturesque view of Biscayne Bay and one of the largest tree canopies in Miami, Coconut Grove again showcased the works of emerging artists who featured naturerelated paintings, photographs and mixed media pieces.
Visitors explored the deep blu sea without even getting their feet wet at the “Beaded Deep Ocean Exhibit” at Blu Moon Studio. Artist Atena Komar invited guests to her underwater fantasy world featuring luminous beaded sea creatures and even real-life mermaids.
Nomade Gallery paid homage to the culture of nature by spotlighting artwork that depicts the raw and abstract allure and aggression of animals, plants and peoples. Featured artists included Miami natives Danny Catania, Samuel Gualitieri, Reinier Gamboa and Juan Travieso, as well as international artists Stian Roenning, Aida Tejada and Pierre Traversat.
Mixed-media painter Angeline Martinez presented “Caliginosity” at the Dharma Studio. The exhibit featured interpretations of emotions regarding the horrible ecological disaster associated with the Deepwater Horizon spill. The Dharma Studio also hosted “Hydrographic,” an exhibition of photographic works by Jason Eldridge that captures moments of water landscapes found in locations such as Everglades National Park, Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island.
GroveHouse Artists, located on the Promenade at Mayfair, presented “Flora and Fauna,” a new exhibition of the group’s work. The featured artist for this month’s exhibition was Celia Reigle.
Taking center stage at Rodezart.com Gallery was “The XV International Ballet Festival of Miami 2010: A Collective Exhibition of 15 Artists Presenting Works Inspired by the Dance.” Inviting guests to behold the choreography of color, shadows and light, contemporary artists showcased the history of ballet, pointe work and acrobatic movements. Participating artists included Orestes Bouzon, Casimiro, Mildrey Guillot, Sergio Lastres, Evelio Lecour, Mano, Annie Maxwell, Santos Mendez, Luis Molinda, Samuel Navedo, Carlos Rafael, George Rodez, Mari Sanchez, Dania Sierra and Evelyn Valdiro.
The Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery held its closing reception for the “Tres” exhibit of New World alumni, while Cristina Chacon Studio Gallery’s “Blended” exhibition series continued with works by Mario Ayerbe, Mena Chacon, Ana Gomez, Gisela Llorens, Sylvia Evelina, Marta Culver and Christy Huang.
Windisch Hunt Fine Art presented 20 new artists to the gallery in a bohemian style and Max in the Grove showcased works by the pop culture icon Peter Max.
