The start of the new school year welcomed 60 new students to Miami Christian School and a variety of sporting, academic, and community service projects that challenging all to strive for their best.
The MCS Lady Victors began with an undefeated volleyball season thru mid- September with a 4-0 record. MCS football team at 1-1 is looking forward to a competitive season while golf, cheerleading, and cross country seasons are in full swing.
Serving the greater community, MCS hosted its first blood drive in September for the Community Blood Center. Students and staff donate blood throughout the year helping the community while also are earning scholarships based on the number of donations made during their high school years.
MCS has once again partnered with Best Buy of Doral, this time in a technology venture. This is part of an ongoing show of support from Best Buy and its general manager, Thomas Mejia. “This is not the first time that Best Buy has come to our aid , “ notes Teri Logan, J.D., “and we feel fortunate to have this relationship with such a generous community partner.”
Elementary and middle school science classes are preparing organic gardens for a Fall planting. Proceeds from the sale of their produce will benefit Sunil’s Home, an orphanage in India, after learning about the orphanage from “Mama” Lynn Bauer. Through last year’s sales and other projects, the elementary school students and the school’s Beta Club raised enough money to buy the orphanage 3 new computers and printers Bauer recently visited MCS bringing each elementary school student a letter and a handmade bracelet from their brothers and sisters at Sunil’s Home..
In alumni news, Alyssa Nieves (‘10) recently earned the AP Scholar Award for her performance on Advanced Placement tests. Nery Martinez (‘00) having studied in Paris for six months, is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social and Public Policy at George Washington University where she’ll lend time to Congressional campaigning for local candidates. Lauren Rivas (‘10) received an academic honor from Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen for her work her senior year at MCS.
Finally, Miami Christian is involved in the School Choice Scholarship and VPK 4 programs and has rolling enrollment.
