The Rotary Club of Coral Gables has a unique way of ushering in the New Year with the club’s annual New Year’s Day Moose Milk Party.
More than 60 people gathered at the Gables home of the Chris Tysons bringing all sorts of great potluck dishes. While this writer opted out on the Moose Milk drink, a combination of vanilla ice cream made into a shake drink by adding gin, several others enjoyed this libation. Yes, there were designated drivers and a fun time was had by all.

Among the many enjoying the day were president-elect Carlos Bolado and his wife, Te r ry; president elect-elect G reg Martini and his wife, Nancy; past president Frank Sexton, and past president Yolanda Woodbridge with husband, F red; past president Deborah Swain with hubby, John; past president Sally Baumgartner with husband, Larry Goodman; past president Walter Alvarez with wife, Annette; Dan Scipione with daughter, Giana, and lots more.

A few missing Rotarians were off to see the last BCS National Championship game on Jan. 6 at the Rose Bowl. Meade McCabe, an Auburn alum, and Judy Pantoja, who bleeds orange and green, traveled west for the game. Others enjoying that game at home included Rotarian Joan Reitsma, whose whole family are crazy Seminole fans and like all Noles fans are on top of the world. Congrats to both teams on a terrific show.

Shell Lumber & Hardware entry carries Little Miss Mango Strut girls during King Mango Strut Parade on Dec. 29.

Of course, the end of the year also had some terrific events including one of this writer’s favorites, the King Mango Strut Parade in Coconut Grove. Despite the rain, the crazies were out having fun making light of current affairs and putting on a great show. Great to see Gables Rotarian Jesus Guzman getting Shell Lumber & Hardware to continually participate in these terrific community events.

The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club begins the new year making plans for the club’s Mar. 8 Casino Night fundraiser to benefit their May Van Sickle Children’s Dental Clinic. This free children dental clinic provides more than $220,000 in dental care every year to children in need. Save the date for a fun evening of gaming, silent auction, dancing and more.
