Dr. Joseph Briggle, a Coral Gables dentist, recently was elected president of Profit Inc., one of Miami’s oldest business networking groups. Serving with Briggle on the board will be Louis DeSouza, who was elected vice president, and directors Robert Beans, Bob Kemper and Kemp Mobley.

Gertrude (Dillie) Daly Mac Veany celebrated her 102nd birthday on Oct. 2. Her seven daughters, all of whom she raised with her husband, Dr. Arthur P. Mac Veany, in the Gables, marked the occasion with a tea party in her honor.
Daughter of famous horseman and trainer, “Father Bill Daly,” Mac Veany was raised in Brooklyn, NY, later married and moved to Coral Gables. She is the grandmother of 30 and great grandmother of 55 children who are her pride and joy.
The Two Hundred Club, an organization that supports the families of police and firemen killed in the line of duty, held its biannual dinner on Oct. 7 at Riviera Country Club. Edna Buchanan, Pulitzer Prize-winning crime journalist and acclaimed mystery novel writer, entertained the crowd comprised of police chiefs, judges, civic leaders and politicians from around town who support this worthwhile and little-known organization that has helped so many.
Among the many seen enjoying the evening were club president Susan Perry Fuhrman; president-elect, Dr. Richard Souviron; Dr. Al and Libby Smith; Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick; Hank Langston; Col. Jose Monteagudo; John Krutulis; Ed Swan; J.B. Spence; Norman Kassof; John Murray, and Alex Soto, to mention a few of the more than 200 in attendance.
Coral Gables Museum opened 10/10/10 with a daylong celebration from morning to night, free and open to the public. Among the day’s activities was a presentation by the project’s architect, Jorge L. Hernandez, followed by cake, ice cream from Wall’s Ice Cream, and then a dedication ceremony at 5 p.m. with mojitos by Bacardi and music and fun for all.
Among the many seen enjoying the affair were Marian and Bob Fewell, Lynn Bauer and Hal Wanless, the Jorge Hernandez family, children galore and many hundreds more.
Finally, congratulations also go out to Coral Gables resident Mark Grossman, of the Grossman Law Group, on his selection to the 2011 Best Lawyers in America in the specialties of Information Technology Law and Technology Law. This is a repeat honor for Mark. He has been chosen by his peers to appear in the Best Lawyers in America every year since 2003.
