Dr. Werner Andrade has been named as the new medical director of The Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Hialeah Hospital, 651 East 25th St.
Dr. Andrade with extensive operating room experience in a wide-range of minimally invasive and endoscopic surgeries is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
The Weight Loss Surgery Program at Hialeah Hospital offers minimally-invasive Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Lap-Band surgery to help patients who have Morbid Obesity, defined as a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 or more with serious comorbidities, or a BMI greater than 40.
The program has been ranked first in Florida by HealthGrades and is designated a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Most recently, Dr. Andrade helped direct Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe, Ariz., to become a Bariatric Center. He finished his Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic GI and Bariatric Surgery at Tampa General Hospital, University of South Florida. He completed a General Surgery Residency at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.
His General Surgery Internship was at Berkshire Medical Center, University of Massachusetts, in Pittsfield, and attended medical school at Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City, Guatemala where he ranked first in the 2001 graduating class. Dr. Andrade is bilingual in English and Spanish, and has been practicing medicine since 2001.
