Happen to make my way over to Joanna’s Marketplace on SW 67 Ave and ran into Dr. Don Harris. He’s the very cool animal vet and was enjoying his favorite salad before going back to his office, aptly named, Avian Exotic Medical Center. Dr. Don, as I like to call him, is quite the exotic animal veterinarian and takes care of all sorts of neat, I mean really cool animals, like tigers and monkeys, tortoises, iguanas, pelicans, snakes, as well as exotic birds. I took a look at his Facebook page and there are some short videos and pictures of some procedures. I loved it and perhaps you will, too.
By the way, I happen to get my hands on a photo of Dr. Don at a r e c e n t Marlins game just moments after he caught a foul ball.
May was a pretty extraordinary and amazing month for my wife Susan and I. During the month, our daughter Lauren, received her Masters in Public Administration from F.I.U. and two weeks later delivered a beautiful 7lb-12oz bouncing boy at South Miami Hospital. Benjamin, who is just now opening his eyes and looking around, is Lauren and Levi’s first child.
And then, our son, Jeff, earned his Masters in Business Administration from Washington University and as I like to say, “He got drafted by one of those big communication companies.”
This time in our lives is rather significant, as our children have, I believe, finished their formal education and we have become grandparents for the first time. It has made me think about what’s important in life. And I’ve been thinking about it a lot.
As I contemplate the past and look to the future, I knew one thing for sure, that we are very proud of our children and their accomplishments. And in one highly emotional moment, with my eyes filled with tears I managed to tell them, “In 25 years or so from now, I hope that you are as proud of your children as we are of each of you.”
In conclusion, on a very personal side of me, I wanted to end this with the following:
There is an old saying, It takes a village to raise a child, and it truly does. So many people in our village were shining stars to our children and each of you should celebrate with us for a job well done. Thank you, Muchas Gracias, Merci and Toda.
