Rotarians, friends and family gathered at the Peacock Garden Café for the changing of the South Miami Rotary guard as Gabriel De Armas takes over as club president. Guests enjoyed a lively evening of cocktails dinner and dancing. Assistant District Governor Rene Negron officiated over the installation of Gabriel De Armas and new officers; Vice President Mike Sutta; Vice President and Immediate Past President Brett Trembly; Secretary, Lucille McKey; Treasurer, David Jacobs; Sergeant-at-Arms, Doreen Reitnauer; and board members, Marice Chael, Ellen Book, and Britt Steinhardt.
The evening was truly a family affair with Gabriel’s 6 year old son, Logan, and his even younger son, Jonah, both of whom stole the show on the dance floor. In addition, Jeff Trembly, father of outgoing president Brett Trembly, a third generation Rotarian, presented his son with a past president’s pin handed down from the family.
In other Rotary news, Coral Gables Rotarians and guests gathered at Angelique Euro Café on June 10th for a gourmet 4- course dinner with wine pairings donated by “the” Michael Mondavi. Representing Mondavi was Miguel Pla who shared information on the various wines served and the reason for the pairings. Guests also had an opportunity to buy chances for some great prizes including a $200 gift certificate donated by Rotarian Eddie Snow from Snow’s Jewelers on Miracle Mile and Coconut Grove independent hair stylist, J.B. Veltman who donated a hair-cut and color worth $240. Coral Gables Rotary Community Service Chair, Lorraine Sheldon, was especially grateful for all who supported this affair which netted more than $1,800 to benefit future Rotary community service projects.
Finally, on June 29, from 2 – 6 p.m., there will be a fundraiser at Coral Gables Woman’s Clubhouse ,1001 East Ponce de Leon Blvd.. in the memory of Tim Walsh.
Tickets to the event are $20 and include food, drinks and entertainment by DJ Joe “Elvis” Torres. After 13 years delivering excellent paramedic care, Time Walsh, father of 4, passed away at 52. The event is being orchestrated by Coral Gables Fire and Rescue and the Coral Gables Firefighter Benevolent Association and the clubhouse rental donated by the CGWC.
