Beat those summer doldrums and show your children what opera is all about — all for free.
For their annual summer collaboration, Riuniti Opera and Alhambra Orchestra, conducted by Florida Grand Opera’s concertmaster Scott Flavin, present two free performances of scenes and selections from Hansel and Gretel, the charmingly melodic setting of this popular story by Engelbert Humperdinck.
Vocalists will be Melissa Ruiz, Eddie Valdes, Janelly Perez, Jessica Francoeur, Beverly Coulter, and Danielle Sanda. In collaboration with the Greater Miami Youth Symphony camp, a 50-minute justfor- kids performance will take place at 10 a.m., on Tuesday morning, July 15, at the West Miami Middle School auditorium, 7525 SW 24 St.
Children from the community are cordially invited. The performance for adults and families will be sponsored by Temple Beth Am on Sunday afternoon, July 20, 4 p.m., in the school auditorium, 5950 N. Alhambra Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra made up primarily of volunteer musicians. Riuniti Opera, under the leadership of soprano/music educator Dr. Beverly Coulter, mentors and promotes young opera singers. Together, they present a free opera each summer.
