Summer is over and it is time to get back in to the swing of things with exciting fall classes at the Alper JCC. The opportunities are endless for children and adults, whether your child is a basketball beginner or art is your forte – there is something for everyone at the J, the place for learning, community connection, and fun. With an array of basketball classes from Biddy Basketball for grades K-1 to Leagues for 18 years and up, opportunities flourish for your children to learn or improve their game
. Middle school and high school basketball teams participate in full court competitive leagues; Youth Basketball for grades 1-5 includes uniforms and trophies for all. Jane Forman’s Tennis Academy offers a variety of classes for beginners to experts. Junior After School Tennis programs offer classes for 3-year-olds and up; there are morning clinics for Co-Ed Ladies’ USTA and South Florida Doubles Leagues, Night Time Clinics including Wednesday Skills and Drills, Instructional Clinics, Men’s and Women’s USTA Night Leagues, and Friday Night Mixed Doubles. Danny Berry’s Baseball and Flag Football programs challenge those of all ages; Beginning with Baseball Intro for 3-4 year olds up through League Play for 12-year-olds. This popular program combines essentials of baseball, and offensive and defensive skills, with regard for the physical and emotional development of each age group.
Flag Football will take place on Saturdays for ages 5-12 and 13-18. Swim Gym is ready for another year of water safety and splashing fun. There is a range of programs for parents and children, 3s and 4s, 5s and 6s, and 6 and over. Stroke School, Swim Team, Adult Swimming or Water Aerobics are all fun ways to tone your body. Super Soccer Stars is offered for ages 2 and up and parent/child pre-soccer programs for parents and toddlers will take you and your little one through a world of stimulating physical activity and positive reinforcement.
Miami Select Volleyball will lead teams and clinics for various age groups. CERAMICS Ceramics for children ages 2-6 will explore the fun of creating imaginative objects with clay using a variety of techniques building fine motor skills in a fun and messy environment. Young adults and teens can create imaginative masterpieces in Ceramics! Adults continue to adore fantastic art classes: H2O Colorists, for watercolorists of all levels of ability, and Brilliance of Enamels, which explores techniques of the ancient art of enameling with breathtaking results. Other Senior/Adult classes and programs range from Advanced Conversational Hebrew, a bi-monthly Women’s Group, weekly Contemporary News and Views discussions, to Meditation to Cancer Support, and much more. Choose from Kung Fu for 5-15 year-olds or teens and adults; Kung Fu, Chinese martial arts, self-defense and kickboxing for teens and adults, Tai Chi for adults, a low impact exercise to help improve and maintain, flexibility, strength and balance, or Mixed Martial Arts Boot Camp, an extreme martial arts work-out.
