Mary Ann Mixon is the incumbent Seat 1 council member and is running for re-election.
She has been a resident of Cutler Bay for 11 years, has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, does volunteer work and currently works as a Realtor.
“I am honored to have served the residents of Cutler Bay as their council member for the past four years,” Mixon said when asked what prompted her to run for re-election. “I have achieved much more than I ever imagined possible. I sincerely feel many more incredible accomplishments will be attained if I stay the course and continue to serve the public for an additional four years.”
When asked what goals she would focus on first following the election she replied:
“In the last few months we have produced a series of public workshops that lead to the completion of the Strategic Master Plan, the Transportation Master Plan, and the Floodplain Mitigation Plan. My top priority in the months following the election is to implement these important plans.
“Doing so will lead to achieving the resident’s goals expressed in both the Strategic Master Plan and the Transportation Master Plan. The implementation of the Floodplain Mitigation Plan is even more significant because it will possibly result in additional cost savings to all property owners required to carry flood insurance. This savings can be up to 5 percent of their annual flood insurance premiums, with the potential to cumulatively save the town’s property owners millions of dollars per year.”
Mixon said she believes that her prior experience on the council on behalf of the town would aid her if re-elected.
“What I bring to this job is my connection to the community, my easy accessibility to the residents, and my sincerity,” she said. “In the last election I promised to be your voice for environmental responsibility, keeping our community safe, citizen control over development, government transparency, and keeping taxes as low as possible without compromising vital services. I have delivered on each of my promises. For example, we just passed the lowest tax rate since incorporation. That is definitely a benefit to the community.”
Mixon said she hopes to continue representing the town’s residents.
“I would appreciate your vote because I have done the best job I can possibly do for you and the Town of Cutler Bay,” Mixon said. “I’ve delivered on my promises and I will continue to work diligently for the betterment of Cutler Bay.
