“We are fortunate to have secured a tradition-rich program in BYU to be the opponent for our team from the American Athletic Conference,” said Carlos Padilla II, Executive Director of the Miami Beach Bowl. “”Both BYU and the top American Athletic Conference teams have hit 40+ points in a game a few times already this season so we could very likely see a very entertaining highscoring game.”
BYU, which has produced NFL stars Steve Young, Jim McMahon and now boasts 14 players currently on NFL rosters, went undefeated in September and has been ranked as high as No. 18 in the AP poll. In two of those wins, at Texas and at home against Virginia, the Cougars lit the scoreboard up for more than 40 points.
The American Athletic Conference has four teams that average more than 30 points per game led by No. 19 East Carolina and QB Shane Carden.
The Pirates, which knocked off both Viginia Tech and North Carolina in September, lead the conference in scoring and are ranked fourth in the country with a 43.9 per game scoring average. Temple is close behind at 39.0 followed by Memphis (35.6) and Cincinnati (32.8).
Hospitality and group ticket packages are also available for the game. To learn more about these opportunities, please contact the Bowl Office by phone at 305.480.1573 or email at Events@MiamiBeachBowl.com.
