Girls from across Miami-Dade County play a game of educational Bingo while learning about good breast health, Oct. 14, at the “Get Your Pink On” party sponsored by the Baptist Health Breast Center in partnership with the American Girl store at The Falls.

Girls learned about breast health in a comfortable atmosphere surrounded by familiar dolls, family and friends at Baptist Health Breast Center’s “Get Your Pink On” party, Oct. 14, at the American Girl store at The Falls.

The approach to place girls in an unthreatening environment appeared popular as more than 140 girls and their parents made their way from hair station to photo booth to bingo tables. The community outreach program aimed to help make healthy breasts a comfortable topic of conversation without raising fear. The event should help raise a girl’s awareness to learn more and be proactive about their bodies.

During the event, girls went to arts and crafts stations to create greeting cards to go inside Baptist Health Breast Center’s Journey Bags. The bags, which the foundation fills with $200 worth of items, are handed out to patients once they are diagnosed with cancer. The Baptist Health Breast Center Foundation raised $500 through sales of pink bracelets to help pay for items for the Journey Bags.

Baptist Health is the largest healthcare organization in the region, with seven hospitals (Baptist Hospital, Baptist Children’s Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Homestead Hospital, Mariners Hospital, South Miami Hospital and West Kendall Baptist Hospital) and more than 30 outpatient and urgent care facilities spanning three counties.
