There are a number of changes this time for the Annual State-of-the-Village address on October 17. The first big change is that it will take place at Village Hall instead of the usual spot, the Palm Room of Palmetto Bay Village Center as it has in years past.
The other big change is that since it will be in Village Hall Chambers for the first time ever it will take full advantage of the facility’s advanced A/V capabilities by simulcasting event coverage via live-streaming video and WBAYChannel 77. So even the folks at home who don’t attend in person can still “be there.”
“The event starts with a reception in the promenade in front of Village Hall 6:30 p.m., during which refreshments, complimentary wine, and light appetizers will be served,” says Bill Kress, the Village’s PIO. “Please RSVP now as the Chambers and adjoining viewing areas, including outside viewing areas via remote monitors and sound, offer limited capacity.”
They will debut a 12-minute video featuring why Palmetto Bay remains such an attractive place to live, work, and play.
Besides the Mayor’s review of Village operations, goals and objectives,
Southwood Middle School Jazz Band will provide cocktail hour music, The Children’s Voice will sing the National Anthem, Miami- Dade Police Honor Guard will provide the presentation of colors, and Palmetto Bay Garden Club volunteers will serve as bartenders.
Sponsor Baptist Health’s Phillis Oeters, VP of Government and Community Relations, will do the welcome remarks. The Fresh Market will provide desserts. TotalBank will help with parking at their lot off Franjo Road behind Village Hall, and for those in need of assistance, two golf carts will shuttle people back and forth.
For an early Halloween treat, Miami- Dade County Commissioner Lynda Bell is presenting “Spooktacular Movie Night” on Friday Oct. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Devon Aire Park, which is located at 10411 SW 122nd Avenue. There’s free popcorn and refreshments. Since it’s in the park, don’t forget to bring your blankets or lawn chairs for seating.
Hispanic Art event…Commissioner Bell also wants us to let everyone know that, working in conjunction with the County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board, she is presenting “Hispanic Art Expressions Gallery Night” on Friday Oct. 26 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, Lab Theater. It’s located at 10950 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay. “Join us for a reception as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an evening of art from across the Americas and meet the artists as they present their pieces to the public,” says Bell. Admission is free.
Another art event…Three mid-career artists with distinctive visions of abstract paintings will be featured in “Color, Form, Space,” an exhibit running now through January of next year at ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries in Coral Gables at 169 Madeira Avenue. The background of the artists is as varied as their works: Bassmi, who paints under the single name Bassmi, is from Egypt and now lives in this country; Michelle Concepción is from Puerto Rico and lives in Germany; and Florian Depenthal is German and divides his time between Europe and this country.
