Ecoboost Mustang convertible is the perfect weekend cruiser

After driving yourself and the kids around all week in your staid sedan or capable crossover, it’s time for the weekend.

If you are seeking the freedom to not only enjoy the road, but to do it in a car that doesn’t spark an image of an office desk or another soccer game, say hello to the 2019 Mustang Ecoboost Convertible — one of the best options out there and won’t break the bank in exchange for making driving fun again.

What makes this car such an easy choice is a combination of several of its most attractive specifications. The 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in the Ecoboost Mustang Convertible produces a more-than-necessary 310 horsepower and 320 foot pounds of torque, although with the manual transmission the torque is upped to 350 foot pounds.

While these numbers are impressive from this size of engine, the miles per gallon are pretty attractive at 21 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. So if it came down to convincing your spouse or a significant other that you need this car, just say it gets fantastic gas mileage (while secretly giving you all the power you need to have the fun you deserve).

Another reason to look close at the Ecoboost Mustang Convertible is because of its recent facelift and droptop — there are not a lot of other choices out there that look as good for the money, while still being able to pull from stoplights.

The interior also is really fantastic for the price and features high quality materials. The Sync 3 infotainment systems remains one of the best I’ve ever used — a far cry from what it used to be. With the drop-top Mustang, the back seats are a bit more tolerable than those in the fastback body style. The rear trunk space is reduced from 13.5 cubic feet in the fastback to 11.3 in the convertible version. Even though the space is smaller, at no point was I strapped for space when driving it.

Driving the Ecoboost Mustang is a real treat. The model I was given had all of the goodies in it from the infotainment to the Torsen Limited-slip Rear-axle which improves the handling so drastically I cannot recommend the option enough when speccing out your own Mustang.

Once the turbo kicks in, it feels like a true sports car, and with a manual transmission, that would totally complete the package. Being able to put the top down on these nice winter days has been a real treat, too.

As I said, this car offers the best bang for your buck. Starting at just $26,395 for the fastback and $31,895 for the convertible, you can easily make the 2019 Ecoboost Mustang Convertible an attainable second car for a family — or even a daily driver for a smaller family. For anyone looking to break out of the monotony of the commute, this is the model of Mustang for you.
