The 2021 Hyndai Sonata N Line is like no other Sonata you have seen or driven.

Let’s begin with the facts: it’s got a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. It also comes with what Hyndai calls “launch control”, an electronic aid that manages engine torque when starting from standstill for a spirited feel.

You get all that for a vehicle that starts at $33,000 and gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.

The 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission with aluminum paddle affirms its sporty feel. So does the red stitching that is the signature color that runs from the seats to the steering wheel. The N Line badging on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob are accents that show the amount of detail Hyndai put into this Sonata. The N Line branding on the seats continues the design features that makes this car special.

In fact, the interior is full of bells and whistles including a 10.25-inch touchscreen that allows for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The driver also benefits from a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster.

The engine is the central core of this powerful combination of performance and power. The N 8-speed wet dual-clutch Transmission (N DCT) is an automated manual transmission with two separate clutches for increased efficiency, faster shifting and driving convenience. The wet clutch system in Sonata N Line offers better cooling and coping in high torque scenarios, and its simple gear lever arrangement allows you to push forward in downshifting and pull back to upshift.

The entire system is connected to a rack-mounted motor-driven power steering system that elevates the precision and stability of every turn, delivering increased steering feedback.

Outside it’s got a lot of style and character. The Sonata N Line shares the same unique lighting signature with the rest of Sonata family, but is amplified with N-inspired design elements that are incorporated into the entire car. Its black grille bears an N Line badge and larger alloy rims sport a distinctive black and silver spoke design. Add to that a glossy black spoiler, which really makes the N-inspired silhouette unique.

The Sonata N Line is outfitted with sport-tuned suspension designed to elevate on-road dynamics, responsiveness and feel. That really stands out on the corners, when the N Line really gives you a sense of its personality.

For that true sport feel, the Sonata N Line’s rev matching automatically feature adjusts the revs of the engine when you shift from a higher to lower gear. That gives you a choice between smoother or sportier downshifts, depending on the drive mode you select.

All in all, the Sonata N Line is a car with a lot of surprises that will continue to deliver performance and style for a generation.
