Walk for a Cause : Lauren’s Kids’ “42 Miles” Awareness & Fundraising Walk

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In an unprecedented time where in-person fundraising events are unable to be held, the Lauren’s Kids Foundation is getting creative in its efforts to prevent abuse and protect childhood. During the month of April – National Sexual Assault Awareness Month & National Child Abuse Prevention Month – the Foundation challenging its supporters to walk 42 miles and help raise a collective $42,000 in honor and recognition of the 42 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse living in the US today.

The statistics are staggering…
• 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthdays…
• 1 in 5 children who touch a digital device will be sexually solicited online…
• And COVID-19 has caused child abuse & exploitation to spike…

But 95% of child sexual abuse IS preventable through education and awareness!
Lauren’s Kids’ Founder and CEO Senator Lauren Book knows all too well what it means to suffer in silence, having been subjected to daily physical, sexual, and emotional abuse from ages 10-16. Since that time, Lauren has dedicated her life to ensuring other children do not have to endure those same abuses.

The Foundation’s 2021 virtual walk challenge will take the place of Lauren’s Kids’ annual “Walk in My Shoes” 1,500-mile trek across the state and “42 Hours” walk-a-thon event at the Florida Capitol. Participants will track fitness (walking, biking, swimming, yoga, even household chores!) and raise funds while participating in weekly live walks with Lauren’s Kids’ Founder and CEO, Senator Lauren Book, who herself is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Daily, weekly, and overall top walkers and fundraisers will be eligible to win prizes including social shoutouts, messages from Lauren, Lauren’s Kids giveaways, and more!

Join Lauren’s Kids in the fight to prevent abuse & protect childhood by registering to walk at LaurensKids.org. Your efforts will help provide life-saving prevention education for children and adults, and resources to help survivors heal. Together, we CAN make a difference for children.
