On Sunday, January 24 the Sunflower Society will have its annual Installation of Officers luncheon. The Sunflower Society is a nonprofit organization which teaches art to at risk, low income children and seniors.
Mayor Enid Weisman, Mayor of the City of Aventura, will be the installing officer. New Sunflower Society officers being sworn in will be Marie Woodson, President; Michael Alexander, First Vice President; Lewis Thaler, Treasurer; Marjorie Aloni, Secretary; Lorraine Harris, Vice President for Events and Marjorie York, Vice President for Public Relations.
Also at this event, the Sunflower Society will recognize and honor our veterans from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines for their dedication and service to our country. During this special ceremony, the Sunflower Society will give special honors to retired corporal Mark Cousey representing the Army; retired First Class Petty Officer David Blake representing the Navy; retired Sergeant Gustavo Cruz representing the Marines and Dr. William Zubkoff representing the Air Force.
The event will take place at Limoncello Italian Restaurant located at 19088 NE 29th Avenue in Aventura.
The event will begin at 1:00pm and will feature a delicious full course Italian lunch with live entertainment from student singer Kelly Woodson. Kelly performed at last year’s event and is back by popular demand. Kelly will be performing a medley of patriotic songs in honor of the veterans.
As part of the festivities, works of art from the Sunflower Society students will be auctioned off. Proceeds from the sale of the student art work as well as other raffle prizes will help to fund additional art classes in 2016.
Cost of the luncheon is $35 and RSVPs are due by January 20th. To reserve your seat for this uplifting event please RSVP to Ms. Lorraine Harris by calling 305-978-4054 or by email to Maloni@viliving.com
