Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

An innovative new school opens in Miami set out to redefine education for families looking beyond the traditional school model. It’s a school where 8-year-olds launch startups, 10-year-olds give TED-style talks and 12-year-olds tackle Harvard Business School challenges. Alpha School boasts a 10-year track record of excellence in Texas, where classes consistently rank in the top 2% in core curriculum, kids get prepared for life, and one of the key measures of success is that “students love school.”

Alpha School is opening its doors near Tropical Park at 8000 SW 56th St., bringing its proven model to our vibrant city. Imagine a school where there are no lecture-based classrooms. They’re replaced with personalized learning plans and project-based workshops focused on life skills. The entire school experience is shaped around individual student needs, aptitudes and passions. The innovative approach is attracting national attention and was the focus of recent special reports on The Today Show and NBC News, singling it out as a model for ‘The Future of Education.’

Learning centers around honing the skills that lead to academic success, but also life success. Gone are the days of simply learning the ‘3 Rs’ – reading, writing and arithmetic. Alpha School focuses on the “4 Cs” – creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

A Vision Rooted in Innovation

Alpha Miami isn’t just another private school entering the competitive local landscape. It represents a radical reimagining of what education looks like in our changing world.

The school operates on the 2 Hour Learning platform, where students complete core academics in just two hours a day. Students progress through this mastery-based learning system, without waiting for the rest of the class. The platform customizes lessons around each individual student. Data shows, Alpha students master material better and learn twice as fast as those in traditional schools. This frees up the majority of the school day for hands-on workshops and creative pursuits.

“We’re not just teaching subjects; we’re preparing students for life,” explains Alex Kiser, the Head of School at Alpha Miami.”

Meet Alex Kiser: The Driving Force Behind Alpha Miami

Head of School, Alex Kiser grew up in Miami. She comes from a family of Cuban immigrants and developed a love of learning that took her to the University of Florida where she was a state speech champion. After graduation, she left to work for Google and was later inspired to pursue a career in education.

Kiser served as a team leader at Alpha School in Austin where she guided her students to successful outcomes using Alpha’s signature, personalized learning model.

The Alpha Miami Difference: Reimagining the School Day

At Alpha Miami, the traditional school day takes on a completely different structure.

To truly understand the model, you need only walk through ‘a day in the life’ of an Alpha student. The Alpha Miami school day begins with a Tony-Robbins inspired event called ‘Morning Launch.’ Kids use that time to get excited about the day, set ambitious goals and do group motivational exercises. Then it’s on to their personalized academic learning plans.

Active Afternoons: The Life Skill Workshop Revolution

Unlike most schools, academic learning is over before lunchtime and students switch to interactive workshops in the afternoons.

“Our students love the workshops and real-world challenges we put in front of them. We’re preparing them for jobs that might not even exist yet,” Kiser explains. “We focus on foundational skills like critical thinking, creativity, financial literacy and problem solving, skills that’ll help them thrive in whatever future endeavors they encounter.”
