American Cancer Society honors Eric Kane with 2022 National Professional Advisor of the Year AwardThe American Cancer Society (ACS) awarded Aventura attorney Eric S. Kane with the 2022 National Professional Advisor of the Year Award, which recognizes exceptional estate planning professionals who encourage and present philanthropic opportunities to their clients. This award also recognizes Kane’s high level of dedication to ACS’s mission of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone, while promoting charitable estate planning to fellow advisors, clients, and constituents.

“Eric has been a devoted supporter of the American Cancer Society’s mission, and we’re so grateful for his service to our planned giving program,” said Bobby Collier, senior vice president, planned giving for the American Cancer Society. “His work and dedication is helping ensure that the patients and families who depend on the American Cancer Society continue to receive the support they need.”   Kane has been a volunteer member of ACS’s Nationwide Gift Planning Advisory Council (NGPAC) since 2020, and for the past two years,  has served as chairperson for the organization. Kane has supported ACS’s planned giving program by advising clients of charitable planning options, securing future gifts for ACS with a value of over $5 million.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to advocate for such a worthy cause,” said Kane.

“Working in a leadership role with ACS and NGPAC has enabled me to engage with colleagues who share the same passion and provided me with additional tools to help guide others in the collective fight to save lives and cure cancer.”

Kane has been practicing law for over fifteen years with a focus in the areas of estate planning, probate, and trust administration. He frequently lectures on the topics of estate planning, probate administration, and healthcare- related matters. Kane is a graduate of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Florida Fellows Institute and graduated cum laude with a J.D. and L.LM from the University of Miami School of Law. He received his B.A. in Government and Latin American Studies cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College. Kane was honored with the National Professional Advisor of the Year Award along with Rebecca Wallenfelsz of Chicago, Illinois.

Planned gifts account for 25 percent of the Society’s income each year. Legacy income is one of the leading sources of income, truly funding the future of the organization.

Charitable estate planning is a way for donors to continue their support to organizations that have had an impact on their lives. This type of giving also has important benefits for the donor, such as income and estate tax reduction.
