The Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center is pleased to announce the arrival of Carlos A. Lopez, MD to the medical staff. As a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Lopez joins a comprehensive team of specialists at the Cancer Center and brings a wealth of expertise to assist in the battle against cancer. Appointed Medical Director of the Cancer Center, Dr. Lopez has arrived in time for September’s annual recognition of prostate cancer awareness.
Dr. Carlos Lopez earned his Medical Doctor degree from the New York University School of Medicine after graduating magna cum laude in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He completed a General Surgery Internship at the University of Chicago and then completed his Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Michigan where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident.
“I am honored to be a part of such a vibrant and committed hospital and cancer program,” Dr. Lopez commented, “I feel very fortunate to have this incredible opportunity to treat those affected by cancer in our community with the most advanced technology and resources and the most caring and dedicated cancer care team.”
Dr. Lopez has presented at numerous professional conferences and is the author of many publications that incorporate his research findings. During the recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Lopez will be presenting to both community and professional audiences on the advanced treatment capabilities offered at the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center. “We are very fortunate to be on the forefront of prostate cancer treatment with the ability to offer the most effective and latest technology for treatment,” remarked Dr. Lopez about the technology available at the Cancer Center.
Dr. Lopez is trained in the following forms of radiation therapy: 3D CRT, IMRT, IGRT, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, LINAC-based Radiosurgery, high-dose-rate Brachytherapy, low-dose-rate Brachytherapy and SBRT. Dr. Lopez is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Brachytherapy Society, the Radiological Society of North America, and the American Medical Association.
