Move over Hoda and Jenna, there’s a new game in town.
Aventura Residents Sherry Schaeffer, 75 and Susan Shovers, 80, had dreams of being in show business — Schaeffer, a glamourous actress/singer and Shovers, a talk show host. While life may have taken them in different directions, retirement at Vi at Aventura led them back to fulfilling their lifelong desires to be in front of the camera.
In 2020, Schaeffer and Shovers created the weekly ‘A La Vie at the Vi,’ (‘To Life at the Vi’) as a way to stay connected to their fellow residents during the pandemic. The highly anticipated program, now in its second season, airs on the community’s in-house television station. The ladies fill the 20-minute show with friendly banter, community updates, special guests, new resident introductions, birthday announcements and more.
“What a thrill to finally live out my dream of becoming a talk show host,” said Shovers. “I have newfound respect for all broadcast journalists – this is not as easy as it looks.”
The resident-run show includes an opening theme song written by 86-year old songwriter Barbara Cromarty and composed and performed by former Broadway musician, 92-year old Peter Fuchs, both of whom also reside in the community.
