The CIA has expanded its board as part of ongoing efforts to keep up with a steady growth in interest and membership, says Stuart Geller, principal of Geller Design Group and the organization’s new president.

There’s no espionage involved here. In this case, the CIA is Citizens Interested in Arts, a nonprofit committed to preserving the visual and performing arts in South Florida.

“This mission is accomplished,” Geller explains, “through grants to qualified members of the region’s artistic community.”

Since taking the helm in May, the new CIA president has established four new board positions. Accepting appointments to new posts are Patty Hogue Soffer, who is serving as Creative Director; Madelyn Fradkin, who has been named Tribute Chair; Roz Castle, who will be the CIA’s Community Education Liaison, and Seth Gordon, Public Media.

Over the summer, Geller reports, the organization is working on its much-anticipated Champion of the Arts Luncheon, to be held in March of 2011.

“The honoree and location are soon to be announced,” he says. Former CIA President Lenore Toby Simmons is chairing that event, with Hollis Freimark as co-chair.

Gloria Muroff and Florence Werner are serving as co-chairs for the Awards Bruncheon, the CIA’s annual grant ceremony, scheduled for January 23, 2011 at Westview Country Club. To date, the group has awarded more than $500,000 to members of more than 100 area arts organizations.

The CIA, says Geller, now has more than 300 members who meet regularly on the second Wednesday of the month now through May. The membership fee is $125 annually.
