Dwight Stephenson: Miami’s Center of Attention

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
There have been many outstanding players in Miami Dolphins history. Perhaps no player dominated his position better than Stephenson. A second round draft pick out of Alabama in 1980, Stephenson only played 8 seasons from 1980 to 1987. He was named All Pro 5 times and was one of the most respected players of his era. His career came to an end after a devastating knee injury resulting from a block in the knee by Jets defensive end and former Alabama teammate Marty Lyons which followed a Troy Stradford fumble. On and off the field, Stephenson was a man among boys. He was named to the NFL’s All Decade team for the 1980s and was one of four centers named to the NFL’s 100 All Time Greatest Players list. Stephenson was also awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 1985. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
