EdFed has announced the launch of the High School Hero Scholarship program. This initiative recognizes and rewards select high school students who demonstrate dedication to the community through volunteerism.
The credit union will award a $1,500 scholarship to one high school student each month from September 2024 to May 2025. Recipients will be selected through a random drawing from qualified nominations submitted via EdFed’s website. Students must complete 25 hours of community service within the previous 12 months to qualify for entry.
In announcing the program, EdFed President and CEO Mike DiBenedetto stated, “At EdFed, we believe that strong communities are built upon a strong culture of community service. The High School Hero Scholarship was created to recognize the positive impact students make by volunteering and also inspire them to seek out new opportunities to be of service to our community.”
The announcement of each monthly recipient will be broadcast live on HITS 97.3 radio by morning show personality Jade Alexander, who will also host a special check presentation celebration at the students’ schools along with EdFed’s mascot, Eddy the Owl.
“I am thrilled to be partnered with EdFed and the filled-with-goodness High School Hero Scholarship campaign that will help students get their lives started,” said Jade Alexander. “It is inspiring to see organizations like EdFed stepping up to celebrate the selfless efforts of young individuals. The High School Hero Scholarship not only rewards students’ hard work but also encourages a culture of giving back.”
