For the first time, Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce (AMC) members enjoyed a Breakfast Meeting at the Gateway Center in Sunny Isles Beach. Perfect timing as this was the first “Sunny Isles Beach “ State of the City” presentation by Mayor Larisa Svechin to AMC members. FPL sponsored this meeting, and the timing for them was excellent as state regulators had just unanimously approved another Florida Power & Light Company request to decrease rates beginning in July to reflect a continued downward trend in fuel prices.
Mayor Svechin shared similar great news about Sunny Isles Beach, saying, “ More and more people are making Sunny Isles Beach their permanent residence. We are no longer a vacation or second home destination. Our beach is a great attraction for people to live by and vacation in but is less crowded than Miami Beach. We have streamlined our business license application and renewal processes and continue a program to market our registered businesses to our resident id cardholders through promotions designed just for them. We launched a weekly Gateway Market where our local businesses and others can market their goods, services and culinary specialties. And most recently, we partnered with our hotels for our anniversary party to showcase all that they have to offer. Our Police Department is one of the best in South Florida and we added more officers this year to continue providing this high level of service. We currently have 61 sworn police officers that include several special units such as K-9, Marine Patrol, Traffic Unit, Detective Bureau and Community Policing. Our brand of city, the height of living, is creating a place that attracts people to live here as a place of choice. A good resident base supports the business community and we are seeing the direct correlation between the changing demographic of those moving in and the businesses’ success.”
Ibis Romero, Executive Director of the Sunny Isles Beach Tourism & Marketing Council, was proud to announce that “Sunny Isles Beach was voted the Best Beach in Miami by the Miami New Times in their Best of Miami edition.”
Chris Ferreira, External Affairs Manager for FPL, said, “I am delighted to give you this good news: Last week, FPL announced a $256 million reduction in fuel charges approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, and that was following a $379 million reduction that took effect in May. This will translate into a monthly reduction of over $8 in a typical 1,000-kWh residential customer bill in July compared to April.” FPL is the nation’s largest electric utility and serves more customers and sells more power than any other utility, providing clean, affordable, reliable electricity to approximately 5.8 million accounts, or more than 12 million people.
AMC Chairman Gary Pyott, Association 1st and Campbell Property Management, opened the meeting by recognizing the entertainment, Young Star Emily Taylor Kaufman, one of the superstar singers from the AMC’s 14th annual Gulfstream Park YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE, HNO Productions for the sound system and photographer Andy Goldstein. Maia Mediavilla, AMC Executive Committee Member who is the Lifestyle Director for the Vi at Aventura introduced the month’s new members, welcomed in by Aventura Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, Esq; Aventura Vice Mayor Amit Bloom and Commissioners Paul Kruss and Michael Stern as well as Sunny Isles Beach Mayor Svechin. Comm. Stern introduced Aventura Police Chief Michael Bentolila and Sunny Isles Beach Police Chief Ed Santiago, each of whom recognized one of their officers for their dedication and bravery.
