It started out with the determination born of pain… determination to ensure that what happened to Lauren Book as a child would not happen to another child. As a young child, Lauren was sexually molested by her nanny, and instead of allowing that horrific experience to define her life, Lauren and her father, Ron Book, created Lauren’s Kids to prevent childhood sexual abuse and help other survivors heal.
Eight years ago, Lauren and Ron started a walk from Tallahassee to Key West, “Walk In My Shoes” a 1,500 mile journey to prevent sexual abuse through education and awareness.
The 8th annual walk began on March 9th and reached Aventura on March 20th, where the community gathered at the new Aventura Publix to greet Lauren and their team of walkers as they walked through Aventura and then on their way to downtown Miami. On March 23rd, they reached their final destination in Key West with a Hope & Healing End of Walk Celebration.
