Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hialeah Campus has been selected as one of three stops of the 2023 Cheetos Deja Tu Huella Tour, a national philanthropic initiative from Cheetos and the PepsiCo Foundation that highlights resources available for Hispanic college students, including the Uplift Scholarship program, for those seeking associate degrees or trade certificates. The event, open to MDC students and selected high school students, will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Working media is welcome.

At the event, students will learn about scholarship opportunities, participate in workshops for careers in the arts and STEM, receive coaching for job interviews, take a professional headshot and hear from guest speakers. Fun activities include an AI Photobooth of the Future (to see themselves in the career of their choice); live mural painting, food trucks and live music and entertainment by WEDR 99 Jamz.

“We continue to proudly acknowledge the vibrancy of our cosmopolitan community, and we are pleased to join hands with an international brand, such as Cheetos,” said MDC’s Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Malou C. Harrison. “Together, we will support and empower our Miami Dade College students with an array of tangible resources to propel them toward the attainment of their aspirations!”

The Cheetos Deja Tu Huella Tour visits community colleges across the U.S. that are classified as Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and have an existing partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation. Other stops of the 2023 Tour included Los Angeles Community College District (Sept. 7) and Alamo College District (Sept. 28).

Deja tu Huella, which translates to “Leave your Mark,” is an initiative of the PepsiCo Foundation through the Cheetos brand to encourage Hispanic college students to participate in the Uplift Scholarship Program, help them persist through school, complete their education and ultimately obtain jobs. Since 2021, Cheetos has committed over $1 million to give back to Hispanic communities. This year, the PepsiCo Foundation, in partnership with Cheetos, is furthering its impact by increasing access to education in Hispanic communities and awarding 500 Uplift Scholarships for the 2024 school year.

Scholarships will be awarded to students across 12 different community colleges classified as HSI. The Uplift Scholarships have impacted more than 1,400 students at HSI institutions since 2021, with plans to support more than 2,000 additional students with scholarships in the next three years.
