The Aventura Marketing Council’s November breakfast meeting hosted by Memorial Regional Hospital South, Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus, Kovens Conference Center and the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management featured a tribute to members of the military and a presentation by Judge Greg Holder, Chair of the Florida Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Department of Defense.

AMC Chair Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota, Helfman welcomed members of the military, as well as business and community leaders gathered at FIU’s Kovens Conference Center. Following the presentation of colors by the U.S. Southern Command Color Guard and the National Anthem sung by Claudia Sanchez of Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Sr. High, AMC members learned about the many benefits associated with hiring Guard and Reserve veterans returning home from tours of duty.

SONY DSCHolder expressed appreciation to the Aventura Marketing Council, presented with an ESGR Seven Seals Award, for outstanding work supporting service members, and emphasized, “Today, we’re paying tribute to great men and women who continue to serve this nation, our way of life and our freedom.”

Employers especially appreciate economic and reliability benefits associated with hiring disciplined, motivated, highly trained military men and women.

During the meeting, AMC members also learned Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood, part of the Memorial Healthcare System, supports the Wounded Warrior Project, dedicated to providing unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members; and Achilles International – giving people with disabilities opportunities to participate in mainstream distance running. On Feb. 24, the Tour de Broward at Miramar Regional Park will benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, which recently performed its seventh pediatric heart transplant. This year’s Tour de Broward will feature events for physically challenged Wounded Warrior and Achilles International athletes; a 100k & 50k ride, 5k timed run and 3k family walk the whole community is invited to participate in; a Play Kid Zone, entertainment, food, raffles and more.

‘Military Recognition Day’ features Judge Greg Holder, Florida ESGRMemorial Regional Hospital South CEO Doug Zaren explained, “We offer a boutique environment enhancing the hospital experience and promoting healing for our patients in an attractive, nurturing and homelike setting.” Beyond providing 24-hour emergency care ranging from minor illnesses to chronic medical conditions, the hospital is also facilitating “miraculous” recoveries at the Rehabilitation Institute of South Florida.

Many other special services include Spine, Joint, Stroke and Trauma Centers; a Geriatric Care Program; Women’s Institute; a Sleep Study program; plus outpatient services, including a variety of medical/surgical procedures and diagnostic testing.

Steven Moll, FIU Vice Provost and faculty member in the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, noted, “FIU is now the second largest university in Florida.At our Biscayne Bay Campus, we have dozens of different majors and the only foreign-educated Physician Program for nursing in the U.S., as well as FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, soon celebrating its first graduation.”
