Stefan Ilies of Let’s Dance Miami serves as “Principal Today” at NSE Sunny Isles Beach K-8 CenterEach year, Miami-Dade County Public Schools reach out to the business community to encourage them to sign up to become a “Principal for the Day” thanks to long-standing sponsor Bank of America.  It’s a great opportunity for the business community to take a leadership role in public education, and this year over 400 principals and community leaders participated by spending a day at the school of their choice as the “Principal” to understand more fully what public education is like today, and hopefully to translate their one-day experience into a long-term relationship that benefits student learning and achievement.

Supt. Alberto Carvalho said, “This annual event allows us to showcase the magic happening in our schools while forming partnerships that result in internships and mentoring for the benefit of our students.  It also gives us an opportunity to have an open conversation with the business community around topics such as academic support, advocacy and workforce development, which is a win-win for public education and our community.”

Stefan Ilies, CEO of Let’s Dance Miami, signed up to represent the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce at one of their Dade Partner schools, Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K – 8 Center with Principal Melissa Mesa.  Ilies said, “It was my absolute pleasure to represent Let’s Dance Miami and the Aventura Marketing Council in this year’s “Principal Today” program.  Principal Mesa gave me a wonderful tour of the school.  I came to America seven years ago and had no idea how the educational system works here.  I was very impressed about how well equipped all the classes were. I was most impressed by the Robotics and Coding classes. This was very informative for me since I have a six-month old son, Daniel, who will be attending school in a few years.  The school has great leadership and staff and the future looks bright for this amazing school.   Go Seahawks!”
