Penny Loome and Joseph Rooney are educators who spent many years teaching around the globe, including in Morocco, Peru, England, Thailand and Curacao. Today, they own five Sylvan Learning Centers in South Florida in addition to ones in Canada. Among the current centers they own, their locations in Aventura and Kendall are two of the largest ones with over 200 students each during high season.
Sylvan Learning Centers create each educational program to the specific needs of the student. “Some students need an enrichment program, while others only need a maintenance curriculum,” says Penny Loone. “No matter their level, we make sure to tailor our programs for each individual,” adds Joseph Rooney. Every center has certified teachers with extensive additional in-house training to ensure each student is guided and educated by the very best.
What sets Sylvan Learning apart is that they provide much more than tutoring programs. Sylvan Learning teaches independence to each student and provides the tools needed to be successful in the classroom and at home. Sylvan Learning also works closely with local schools to prepare students for standardized tests and educational enhancement.
“Parents in South Florida are very engaged,” says Barbara Timm-Brock, Chief Growth Officer Sylvan Learning. That is one of the main reasons why Penny and Joseph are looking at South Florida as the place to expand and bring their new Satellite Centers. “Our Satellite Sylvan Learning Centers will provide more accessibility to the community and reach out to those that need our programs the most,” adds Joseph Rooney.
Penny and Joseph are very active in the community. They participate in many community events and contribute to local organizations that work closely with the centers. “We want to continue making a difference not only in the lives of our students but also their parents, family and their community,” adds Penny.
