TD Bank Hosts “TuDinero con TD” Media Summit to Empower Hispanics to Make Informed Financial Choices

HX6A3526TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, hosted a Hispanic financial education media summit designed to empower the community to make informed financial choices. Through the TuDinero con TD event, TD Bank engaged Hispanic media and bloggers on the various financial topics affecting Latinos. At the summit, the bank also unveiled the TD Bank Checking Experience Index, which revealed banking habits and preferences of Hispanic consumers.

“TuDinero con TD was a great way to determine the most effective approach to communicate with the Hispanic community in a way that resonates with this audience,” said Felipe Basulto, Retail Market Manager, TD Bank. “TD Bank can help Hispanics feel confident in their knowledge of personal finance and make informed financial choices.”

According to TD Bank and its 2012 Consumer Checking Survey, Hispanics are more optimistic about their finances and more confident in their financial future than the general market. However, according to the recent TD Bank Checking Experience Index, education is key to utilizing all available financial resources and avoiding fees, which is why Hispanic consumers should talk to their bank for expert financial information. According to a 2011 survey from Mass Mutual Insurance, 42 percent of Hispanics say their parents never spoke to them about money and wished they had been taught more about it. The same study also revealed that 84 percent of Hispanics feel it is important to educate children on finances to ensure a strong economy in the future.

At the Summit, TD Bank covered topics important to the Hispanic community, such as financial goals, teaching children financial responsibility, and why it’s important for Hispanics to get their financial information from experts. TD Bank also discussed how the changing banking landscape is forcing consumers to consider more criteria when making their banking decisions.

Throughout the session, participants from TD Bank, the media, and bloggers discussed how they can make an impact in the Hispanic community’s financial future. Education was the solution. The group encourages Hispanics to:
– become more educated about the available financial services and resources that banks offer today – understand the features, price guidelines, and benefits of all banking products
– feel comfortable using sophisticated banking, savings, and investment tools
– recognize that banking experts are an ideal source for financial information
– feel comfortable talking to their bank for guidance on financial services that will best meet their needs
