Teams from the Miami-based Palace Group’s communities headed to Fort Myers to lead a hand to Hurricane Ian victims. Organized by The Palace at Weston’s Director of Sales & Marketing Elizabeth Martinez, who spearheaded the collection of donations from residents and the communities, trucks were loaded with tons of much-needed supplies, including pallets of canned goods, water, non-perishable items, baby food, and assistive devices.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office-Weston and Pembroke Pines Police Department provided a police escort for the caravan to Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church in Ft. Myers. Executive Chef Ken Wilbanks directed the team who served a barbecue meal for over 600 members of the community as well as first responders.  They also delivered food to the Ft. Myers Police Department.

According to Martinez, people were so grateful and said they hadn’t had a hot meal in weeks or if they got their power back, they had no food in their refrigerator. They were also touched that a senior community from South Florida would support their recovery efforts.

Lending support after a hurricane has become a tradition for The Palace.  The company experienced the devastation from Hurricane Andrew which impacted both The Palace Gardens in Homestead and The Palace Kendall.

“It’s important for us to help others in this time of need,” said Martinez. “In 2017, we went to Homestead after Hurricane Irma to bring donations and serve meals so we know what this means to people. Going to Ft. Myers was a meaningful day for us. We are thrilled to do our part helping those who have been struggling.”
