The Community Hebrew Afterschool Program (CHAP) is the first daily aftercare of its kind, which has grown over the past 8 years into a world-class institution. It enables single parents and families relying on dual incomes, to retain their jobs, confident that their children are safe and happy while attending Dade County’s number one rated afterschool program.

To date, over 700 children and 500 families have enjoyed CHAP and dozens of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs have been coordinated. CHAP now offers several tracks: Monday through Friday classes that includes Hebrew, Holidays, Art, Ceramics, Drama, Music, Tikkun Olam and Homework Help; Wednesdays only classes that focus on Hebrew and Holidays, designed for children attending Pine Crest, Country Dade, American Heritage, Riviera, Nova, Charter Schools or anyone looking for a once-a-week Hebrew School of the highest standard; or Weekly High School clubs at Michael Krop, Alonzo & Tracy Mourning High School and Florida Int’l University.

It’s no surprise to the community that Dade County’s top rated after-school program is run by Chabad. Chabad Chayil’s program has been rated one of the best, for the fifth year in a row by an educational consulting company hired by Miami-Dade to rate all county after-school programs.

After spending two weeks observing and analyzing every aspect of CHAP, Cynthia Serure, president of A Gift for the Soul, Inc. concluded that the program was exemplary. “This program scored at the top on virtually all analytical criteria including quality of staff, student-teacher interaction, and curriculum,” said Serure. “It is a model program.”

CHAP is run out of Aventura Waterways K-8, Monday-Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pre- and after-Hebrew school programs including homework help, tutoring and music are available from 1:40- 3 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m. for a nominal fee. The Wednesday program is run out of the Dovid Bryn Library and Chabad Chayil. The High School programs are run at Krop, ATM, FIU and local Chabad’s.
