Mount Sinai Medical Center welcomes Maurice Mawad, M.D.

Mount Sinai Medical Center welcomes Dr.Maurice Mawad, its newest cardiothoracic surgeon. Dr. Mawad will be working alongside Dr. Joseph Lamelas, the medical center’s chief of cardiac surgery, and his team of cardiothoracic surgeons at the Mount Sinai Heart Institute.

Dr. Mawad specializes in adult cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery. He attended the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he also completed his surgical internship.Dr. Mawad completed his general surgery residency at SUNY (State University of New York) Stony Brook University and his cardiothoracic fellowship at SUNY Brooklyn. He also completed advanced fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery, minimally invasive cardiac valve surgery and redo cardiac surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Mawad’s clinical interests include off-pump surgical revascularization, device implantation, thorascopic surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery and redo coronary revascularization. He is a member of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr.Mawad joins an elite team of cardiovascular surgeons at the Mount Sinai Heart Institute, which has the best cardiac surgery survival rate in Florida among hospitals performing the highest volume of complex procedures.
