Seventeen Miami Dade College (MDC)students were presented with the 2023 Leaders of Promise Scholarship, an award sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation that recognizes 200 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members nationwide. Each recipient receives $1,000.
“This scholarship for first-year students is a validation of the hard work they do from day one, as well as a recognition of their academic success and involvement to make their campus communities better,” said Dr. Diego Tibaquirá, lead advisor of the PTK Honors Society chapter at Padrón Campus and Lead Faculty for MDC’s Honors College.
Twelve of the winners belong to the Honors College Dual Language program at MDC’s Padrón Campus and the remaining five attend Homestead, Kendall and North campuses respectively. A panel of independent judges selected this year’s recipients from nearly 1,100 applicants. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars are chosen based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
