Achieve Miami gets $500,000 for its Teacher Accelerator Program
Ceremonial check presentation

Florida Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez recently presented a $500,000 check to Achieve Miami in support of the non-profit’s Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) which creates a pipeline of trained educators ready to enter classrooms across South Florida.

This critical state funding reinforces the program’s growing role in addressing Florida’s teacher shortage and preparing future educators to make a lasting impact in their communities.

Now in its third year, TAP has trained more than 500 educators to date, including 210 new teachers placed for the 2025-26 school year. The program’s impact is visible across South Florida, where teacher vacancies have dropped by more than half year-over-year, reflecting TAP’s growing role in addressing the teacher shortage and preparing high-quality educators for long-term success.

TAP participants take a one-semester course, followed by a six-week paid summer internship, earn a certificate to teach, and begin instructing in a South Florida public, private, or charter school classroom. TAP is an initiative of Achieve Miami, supported by Teach for America Miami-Dade, and is offered by the University of Miami, Florida International University and Miami-Dade College.
