The board of directors of Amigos For Kids, a Miami-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect by valuing children, strengthening families, and educating communities, announced the election of its new slate of officers, including Maggie Fresen Zulueta as board chair. She succeeds Nicole D. Valls who has served as board chair since 2017.
Fresen Zulueta, who has served on the board since 2008, is co-founder and vice president at Academica, and a graduate of Florida International University and the St. Thomas University School of Law.
In addition, the organization’s new executive committee is composed of vice chair Yosbel A. Ibarra, co-managing shareholder at Greenberg Traurig; board secretary Victoria San Pedro Madani, an attorney at Shutts & Bowen LLP, and longtime board member Alexander Sueiro, partner and co-founder of PAAST PL, who will continue to serve as board treasurer. Valls, vice president of Valls Group, will serve as immediate past chair.
“As we prepare to kick off our 30th year serving the under-resourced children and families of South Florida, I could not think of a more solid and committed team to lead the board,” said Jorge A. Plasencia, Amigos For Kids’ co-founder and chairman emeritus. “We congratulate Maggie and the new officers, and we thank Nicole for her stellar service to our mission.”
Members re-elected to the board include community leaders Lissette M. Calderon, CEO of Neology Development Group; Pedro Capó, COO of El Dorado Furniture; Pamela Silva, news anchor at Univision; Ingrid Hoffmann, TV celebrity chef and author; Miguel Larrea, senior account executive at Clear Channel Outdoor, and Jose Victor Morales, senior vice president at Citi.
“I am honored to serve the board of Amigos For Kids as its new chair,” Fresen Zulueta said.
“I look forward to continue working with my fellow board members and the entire Amigos team to help prevent child abuse and neglect while serving the children and families in our community.”
Karina Pavone, executive director of Amigos For Kids, said, “We are extremely fortunate to have such a capable and talented group of individuals on the board of Amigos. Their dedication and commitment are critical to the success of our organization. I am deeply grateful for Nicole Valls’s work as chair and I am excited to have Maggie at the helm of Amigos’ board as our new chair. The new executive committee will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the next chapter of the organization as we celebrate an amazing milestone this year of providing support for families in our community for 30 years.”
